ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A crash on the Bowen Bridge over the French Broad River snarled traffic on Interstate 240 in Asheville on Monday afternoon, closing multiple westbound lanes and causing significant delays.
The wreck occurred near Patton Avenue between mile markers 3 and 0, according to traffic reports. Three of the four westbound lanes were closed at Exit 3A, U.S. 74 Alternate (Patton Avenue), leaving only one lane open to traffic.

A person fighting to get through traffic said a pickup truck pulling a trailer was involved, and the trailer overturned, spilling its contents on the roadway.
Transportation officials said the expected impact to traffic was high as congestion backed up through the area.
The lane closures began about 2:28 p.m. and were expected to last until approximately 3:28 p.m. No immediate information was released on injuries or the cause of the crash.
