ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) –

For the third time in less than a week, gunshots were fired into an occupied home in Asheville early Sunday morning, and, although no injuries were reported, one of the bullets struck an interior wall of a child’s bedroom, Asheville police reported.

The Asheville Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a gunman involved in the latest incident.

According to a press release, about 1:04 a.m. Sunday, May 26, officers responded to a residence on Hibernia Street to investigate reports of gunshots. No suspect was on the scene when officers arrived, but officers found a residence that had been struck by gunfire and found 17 shell casings.

“One of the bullets entered the residence, and into an interior wall of a child’s bedroom,” the release stated.

It was the third such case reported by Asheville police in recent days:

* About 12:43 a.m. on May 25, two homes and two vehicles in the 300 block of Brooklyn Road were struck by gunfire and 46 shell casings were found.

* Now, about 1:04 a.m. on May 26, the occupied residence on Hibernia Street was struck and 17 shell casings were found.

Only property damage was reported in all three cases, with no reported injuries.

As of now, police have not identified a connection among the three cases that have happened since last Thursday.

“Unfortunately, these seem to be happening with more frequency,” APD spokesman Rick Rice said via email in response to a reporter’s question. “But as of now, the investigations are still ongoing, and there’s nothing to share at this time regarding a connection. There’s a lot of evidence to digest, and our detectives are working hard and doing their due diligence.”

“We understand how these kinds of incidents can be unsettling for neighborhoods where they occur and could certainly use the public’s help,” Rice added. “We continue to encourage members of our community to share anything and everything. Sometimes, even a minor detail can lead to an arrest.”
