BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (828NewsNow) — In today’s briefing, Buncombe County officials announced that food and water distribution sites will be revealed later today. The sites will offer both walk-up and drive-thru options, with each household member eligible to receive a one-day supply of food and water. Additionally, county officials are developing plans to deliver supplies to residents who are unable to reach distribution centers. More supplies are expected to arrive in the coming days.
Officials expressed frustration over the slow response in securing essential supplies, particularly water, which they had requested before the storm made landfall. The first shipment of water arrived this morning at 2:30 a.m., with three tractor-trailers delivered so far. State officials attributed the delay to the storm’s widespread impact, affecting 25 counties across North Carolina. As a result, the Asheville Regional Airport will serve as a central hub for distributing supplies to all affected counties.
To accelerate relief efforts, the state has contracted a private company to assist with water deliveries. Buncombe County has also partnered with the City of Asheville to coordinate local distribution sites, ensuring that supplies reach residents as efficiently as possible.
Check back for distribution sites once they are announced.
