ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Buncombe County Detention Facility officer has been arrested and placed on administrative leave while the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office conducts an internal review, officials said Thursday.

Detention Officer Trayvis Williams was arrested Tuesday by the Asheville Police Department and charged with assault on a female, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Quentin Miller said the arrest “weighs heavily on us” and emphasized his commitment to transparency, integrity and maintaining public trust. Williams was placed on administrative leave following the arrest, which the agency said is standard procedure during internal reviews.

The sheriff’s office said it cannot comment further on the pending criminal case and will allow the courts to address the allegations.

“Everyone here … is expected to live up to the highest standards, whether they’re in uniform or off the clock,” the statement said. “We know how much trust the community puts in us. It’s the foundation of everything we do. We believe in transparency, and we will hold everyone accountable if they are found to have broken the law or our policies.”
