ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County Schools will dismiss students two hours early Friday, Jan. 30, because of an approaching winter storm.

Forecasters now expect accumulating snow to begin earlier than initially predicted, with road temperatures already dropping into the 20s. Buses will start their routes earlier, and student drivers and parents picking up children should plan to leave school two hours ahead of the regular schedule.

Officials said the adjusted dismissal will allow buses to safely complete routes and return to schools by 3:45 p.m. Students will receive lunch before leaving, and car riders will be supervised until picked up.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Buncombe County starting at 4 p.m. Friday.
