MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Authorities are looking at a 16-year-old in Sacramento, California, as the source of a call warning of an active shooter at McDowell High last week.
Officials received a 911 call reporting an active shooter at McDowell High School on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Local, state and federal law enforcement searched the school, a news release from McDowell County Schools Superintendent Tracy Grit said Tuesday.
“Reports indicate there were no victims,” Grit said in the news release. “Fortunately, no shots were heard, and there is currently no confirmed threat to students or staff.”

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post Friday evening that it, along with in collaboration with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and FBI had made significant progress in the investigation.
“Authorities in California, through effective information-sharing among agencies, were able to connect this individual to similar incidents in that state. The suspect was taken into custody yesterday by California law enforcement on charges related to those incidents,” the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.
No other details about the teen’s identity have been released.
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, SBI and California authorities are working to obtain the necessary evidence and information to pursue charges in North Carolina, the Facebook post said.
