HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – One of Western North Carolina’s best state forests is partially closed this week “to allow chainsaw work to be completed in the area,” according to the North Carolina Forest Service.

Known for its beautiful waterfalls and lakes, DuPont State Forest straddles the border between Transylvania and Henderson counties near Hendersonville and Brevard. With around 80 miles of trails, the vast wooded area is a favorite among natives and tourists alike.

Certain sections of DuPont State Forest will be closed this week. If you were planning to visit the park this week, you may need to alter your calendar.

“Officials at DuPont State Recreational Forest will implement a temporary closure for Flat Rock Trail effective Monday, Feb. 17 – Thursday, Feb. 20,” the N.C. Forest Service stated. “This closure will be in place to allow chainsaw work to be completed in the area. Flat Rock Trail is expected to reopen Friday, Feb. 21.”

Additionally, the Fawn Lake parking lot will be closed this week for “annual maintenance” from Feb. 17-18, the state forest service said.
