ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Has the mud in your yard dried? Have you enjoyed the sunshine? Well, the weather is about to change again.
Rain returns to the forecast Saturday with showers likely across much of the area along with temperatures in the low 50s.
The National Weather Service said a system moving in Friday night through Saturday will bring light rain, cooler temperatures and the potential for a light glaze of ice along the Blue Ridge escarpment. A stronger storm system is expected to push across the area early Sunday with showers and maybe even some thunderstorms.
When the moisture moves in Saturday, temperatures will be cold enough for some freezing rain along and near the Blue Ridge escarpment, the National Weather Service said.
A cold front moving across the area Sunday is expected to bring the chance of damaging winds and a quick shot of heavy rainfall.
The weekend forecast, according to the National Weather Service:
Saturday: Showers, mainly before 2 p.m. Patchy fog between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. High near 54. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
Saturday night: Showers with thunderstorms possible after 4 a.m. Low around 49. South wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.
Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m. High near 60. Breezy, with a south-southwest wind 17 to 21 mph becoming west-northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Blustery.
