ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The comedian Brian Regan is coming to town for a benefit performance this Wednesday.
Regan will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in downtown Asheville.
The show is a fundraiser in coordination with Asheville Comedy Festival and Explore Asheville’s Always Asheville fund. The Always Asheville fund was set up to support small travel and hospitality businesses in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s devastation of the region.
In an emailed interview with Regan, he said he was attracted to perform in Asheville to support a cause worth celebrating. The comedian is bringing his signature wit to town unfiltered.
“It feels good to help a charitable cause,” Regan wrote. “I don’t adjust my material for a charity show. If the charity is about a sensitive subject, usually I don’t hit up against that in my show.”
The key word is “usually.”
“But once, I was doing a charity show in support of hungry cats. I said in my show that I don’t like hungry cats,” Regan continued. “People booed. Then I explained that I like cats, I just don’t like when they’re hungry. Then I got a standing ovation.”
Lest people be confused and think that Regan always has an animal angle to his performances, he was sure to clarify.
“Please don’t come to my show expecting me to do bird tricks,” Regan wrote. “I don’t do any bird tricks. None.”
Regan said that he wanted to come to Asheville for two reasons.
First, the town has a reputation for having a good sense of humor. Second, in an area so heavily impacted by the hurricane, it was an easy choice for a benefit.
“Clearly the Asheville area has been hit hard. Feels good to help in some small way,” Regan said.
