ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The annual fall festival and corn maze at Eliada Home, a child services non-profit, is the latest October event canceled after the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene.
The fall festival, which offers corn-themed activities like the “corn cannon,” a corn cob launcher that sends maize projectiles hurling toward distant hay-stuffed targets, was called off in a press release issued Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for Eliada. General admission to the festival is $15 a ticket, while children three-and-under get in for free. Donation tables, food trucks, hay rides, maze runs and pumpkins for purchase also contribute to the fall fundraising efforts.
Without this fundraiser canceled, it would have been understandable if Eliada had said “aw, shucks.”
Instead, they were optimistic about the future.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone back for an even more spectacular event in 2025,” the organization said in their press release.
In lieu of the fundraiser, Eliada asked that its contributors consider donating instead. The foster home is operating a donation and distribution center to aid people suffering from the Hurricane Helene disaster and are always looking for supplies.
Donations can be made between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., seven days a week, outside Eliada Home at 49 Compton Dr.
