ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

A search for a suitable polling place in the southwest corner of Buncombe County has delayed the submission of the county’s early voting plan for this November’s presidential election.

The Buncombe County Board of Elections on Tuesday voted to request an extension until next Tuesday, May 14, before submitting an early voting implementation plan to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

According to county officials, they’re trying to finalize a plan with 14 early voting locations all across the county, but as of Tuesday they still had not secured a suitable site with Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, internet capability and ample parking in the southwest corner of the county.

They have considered Upper Hominy Fire & Rescue and Pole Creek Baptist Church, but still are asking the public for other suggestions.

People can weigh in at an online early voting survey available HERE.

According to a press release, the survey already had received more than 800 comments from 410 participants, with the top concerns being weekend hours, accessibility issues and a call for more rural locations.
