ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Traffic was snarled across parts of Asheville during the Tuesday morning commute, with heavy congestion reported along Patton Avenue and a crash closing a lane on Interstate 26.
The N.C. Department of Transportation’s DriveNC traffic map showed widespread slowdowns on Patton Avenue, though no crashes were immediately reported on that roadway.
More significant delays were reported on I-26 westbound near Long Shoals Road in southern Buncombe County. A vehicle crash closed the left lane about one mile west of Exit 37 (NC 146/Long Shoals Road) near Arden, according to DriveNC.
One of two westbound lanes was closed, and the expected impact to traffic was listed as high. The incident began around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday and was expected to be cleared by approximately 9 a.m.
Motorists were urged to use caution and allow extra travel time while crews worked to clear the scene.
