ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —
An overturned semi-truck leaking diesel fuel has prompted a diversion of traffic Wednesday afternoon, May 1, on Sweeten Creek Road near Mills Gap, prompting traffic to be diverted.
Via social media, the Asheville Fire Department is asking the public to avoid Sweeten Creek Road and to use Hendersonville Road instead.
According to the department, firefighters are on the scene at 3095 Sweeten Creek Road following a motor vehicle crash involving the overturned big rig.
“The saddle tanks are full and leaking diesel fuel. (A) Hazmat unit has been dispatched to mitigate,” a Facebook posting said. “Traffic will be impacted in the area for some time.”
