ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Crews were battling several wildfires across the state Saturday night, including one on a ridge near Hookers Gap.

Fire crews are battling a wildfire at Milksick Cove Road and Groom’s Road in Candler. The fire was estimated at 50 acres, Buncombe County officials said at about 8 p.m. There was no estimate on containment.

According to a Leicester community Facebook group, the fire had reached the Leicester side of Hookers Gap.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No evacuations are in place, and structures are being protected, officials said.

Earlier in the day, firefighters were battling blazes in  West Asheville and tryon.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, crews are responding to multiple fires in all four national forests in North Carolina.

  • 3 new fires on the Croatan, two of which have been reported as contained.
  • 3 new fires on the Uwharrie.
  • 1 new fire on the Pisgah (Appalachian Ranger District) along I-40 in the Pigeon River Gorge south of the recently reopened section.
  • 4 new fires on the Nantahala (2 on the Cheoah Ranger District, one on the Nantahala Ranger District, and 1 on the Tusquitee Ranger District).

Acreages and more precise locations will be forthcoming when assessments are completed, the U.S. Forest Service said in a Facebook post.
