ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work on Election Day, now’s your chance to earn some money while supporting the democratic process.

Buncombe County Election Services is looking for poll workers for the 2024 General Election. An in-person information session will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, for those interested in learning more about “the perks of working the polls, eligibility requirements, time commitment, pay rates, and more,” a release from Buncombe County government says.

The session will be held at the Election Service Office, located at 59 Woodfin Place in Asheville. It is set to start at noon that day.

“Representation from both the Democrat and Republican parties is an important part of the process and is statutorily required,” a release from the county says. “While the Constitution Party and other parties are now recognized by the state, representation is statutorily required only for the two parties with the largest memberships.”

Some “perks of working the polls,” according to a release from the county:

  • Meaningful
  • Learn how elections really work
  • No prior experience needed
  • Option to work one full day or shifts for two weeks
  • Earn extra money
  • Great team atmosphere
  • Build highly transferrable skills
  • Opportunities for students, people looking for supplemental incomes, and retirees with flexible schedules

“Our poll workers are the backbone of safe and fair elections,” Election Services Director Corinne Duncan said in a news release. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer our Buncombe County voters the best experience at the polls, regardless of if they vote early or on Election Day.”
