ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Police are investigating an assault on a bicyclist in north Asheville after the victim was injured by an object thrown from a passing vehicle late Wednesday night.

Officers were called to Mission Hospital around 12:37 a.m. Thursday after a man arrived with multiple injuries, according to the Asheville Police Department.

The victim told officers he was riding northbound on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Merrimon Avenue around 10 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck in the face by an unknown object thrown from a vehicle. The impact knocked him off his bicycle, causing lacerations, a large abrasion above his eye and a bloody nose. A third party took him to the hospital.

The victim was unable to provide a description of the vehicle, police said.
