ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A local beverage company is broadening its horizons in the Sunshine State.

Devil’s Foot Beverage Company, an Asheville purveyor of organic sodas, is joining forces with Progressive Distribution to bring their drinks to Tampa, St. Augustine, Orlando and Jacksonville, Florida.

“We have an online store and we ship all around the United States, but it’ll be great to be breweries and Publixes and stuff like that in Florida. So, that’s our goal, to work with Progressive to get that out there. Luckily, then people won’t have to pay for shipping costs,” laughed Katie Smith, the “lead storyteller” for Devil’s Foot.

Smith’s unusual title is representative of her integral role crafting press releases, social media posts and marketing materials for Devil’s Foot, but it also represents the company’s story-driven approach to their business.

“We are farm-to-can, all real ingredients. It’s more than just a soda company,” Smith said. “It’s not your typical soda that everybody grew up knowing, Pepsi and cola kind of thing. It’s more of a whole process.”

Devil’s Foot prides themselves on using real, local ingredients for their beverages, which are then shipped out to breweries and businesses the company has a genuine relationship with.

“We use all fresh fruit, all organic fresh fruit and roots. We use every part of the fruit. We save the rinds from our oranges and grapefruits, and we’ll vacuum seal them, and freeze them, and sell them to breweries to use in beer or distilleries or, you know, whatever company needs them,” Smith explained. “It’s not just a drink in a can. There’s so much more behind it.”

Devil’s Foot flavors range from root beer to sparkling peach lemonade to nonalcoholic Negroni. According to Devil’s Foot, as much of that flavor as possible is sourced from local farms.

“We get a good chunk of our fruit from as local of farms as we can. We have farms down in South Carolina, we use regional honey. I know for a fact we get our strawberries from Bush-N-Vine,” Smith said. “Getting it from a farmer, places we know, places that, you know, we trust their mission, their goals, all that stuff.”

While Devil’s Foot continues to grow – Smith teased more news in the weeks to come – community continues to be their orienting motto.

“Knowing the product. Getting it here. Putting money back into our community,” Smith said. “All-in-all, a big picture, working together as one.”
