ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will end its in-person operations at the community resource center in Buncombe County on June 30, officials said Friday.
FEMA has maintained a daily presence at the locally managed center since it opened April 7 in response to recent disasters in the region. The decision to conclude in-person services was made jointly with the state of North Carolina due to a decline in the number of visitors seeking assistance in recent days, the agency said.
FEMA officials emphasized that disaster support will continue through other means. Survivors can still access help online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.
More than 700 FEMA personnel remain deployed in Western North Carolina to support state and local governments and assist survivors through ongoing Disaster Case Management and other recovery programs.
