HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Final construction tasks are underway on Interstate 26 in Henderson County, prompting overnight lane closures over the next several weeks, transportation officials said.
The closures will allow contract crews to complete a punch list of remaining work, including pavement grinding in select areas and the installation of weigh-in-motion sensors, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation. Permanent lane striping is scheduled to begin next week, with additional work such as installing snow-plowable markers, adding rumble strips and completing signage also on the schedule.
Closures will occur nightly, primarily Monday through Friday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with affected segments varying throughout the county. Drivers are encouraged to check DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT social media for the latest updates on specific locations and detour routes.
Most detours will direct passenger and commercial vehicles to U.S. 25 as an alternate route during the closures.
