ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A late-night house fire in Fairview destroyed a home and spread into nearby woods, but the resident escaped safely and no firefighters were injured, officials said.
The Fairview Volunteer Fire Department said crews responded to the structure fire late Thursday night and returned to service after cleaning and resetting equipment early Friday.
Firefighters arrived to find the structure fully involved in flames, with fire spreading into the surrounding woods. A live power line, melted by the heat, was burning on the ground and limited crews’ ability to work on one side of the structure until Duke Energy de-energized the line, according to the department.
Narrow and steep driveway access forced crews to haul water and use relay pumping operations up the mountainside to fight the fire.
The department thanked several mutual aid agencies that assisted on the call and asked the community to keep the resident in their thoughts after the loss of the home.
No additional details, including the cause of the fire, were immediately available.
