ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Asheville area.
A slow-moving band of thunderstorms has resulted in between 2 and 3 inches of rain through the Asheville metro and surrounding areas, the National Weather Service said shortly after 6 p.m. Urban flooding is already ongoing across the city of Asheville.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area.
Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas is ongoing, the National Weather Service reported.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include downtown Asheville, Hendersonville, East Asheville, Arden, West Asheville, North Asheville, Mills River, Woodfin, Fletcher, Etowah, Weaverville, Mountain Home, Mars Hill, Biltmore Forest, Bent Creek, Blue Ridge Parkway/North Carolina Arboretum to East Asheville, UNC Asheville, Skyland, Biltmore Park and Enka. That warning is set to expire at 11:15 p.m.
A second warning was issued for Hendersonville, Marion, Spruce Pine, Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Flat Rock, Fairview, Lake Lure, Old Fort, Saluda, Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Chimney Rock State Park, Blue Ridge Parkway-Craggy to Little Switzerland, Mount Mitchell State Park, Blue Ridge Parkway-Little Switzerland to Linville, Montreat, Gerton, Pleasant Gardens and Sugar Hill.
That warning is set to expire at 1 a.m. Thursday.
