ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — North Carolina high school seniors have a chance to apply to many state colleges and universities for free during College Application Week, set for Oct. 20-26.

The event is part of the College for North Carolina’s “Countdown to College” initiative, a year-long program designed to guide students through residency verification, financial aid and college applications. Participating schools will waive application fees during the designated week.

High schools across the state are encouraging seniors to take advantage of the opportunity. Haywood County Schools reminded students, “Seniors—don’t miss this chance to take the next step toward your future.” Rutherford County Schools echoed the message, urging students to explore multiple schools and keep options open.

Students can submit applications online through the CFNC Application Hub. The platform also allows them to request free high school transcript submissions to participating colleges. A full list of colleges waiving application fees is available on the CFNC website.

“Even if your student’s dream school isn’t on the list, we encourage them to take advantage of this chance to apply to a few participating schools and keep their option open,” Rutherford County Schools said.
