ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival is an annual celebration of alternative, strange and unconventional artwork in Asheville.

Previous festivals have featured elaborate puppet shows, interpretative dances and odd short films. The assortment of Fringe Fest performances are never the same and always offbeat.

The Fringe Festival fundraiser begins at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19 at Fleetwood’s in West Asheville.

Fringe Fest is partnering with frequent festival venue Fleetwood’s for a fundraiser beginning at 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19 at the West Asheville bar. In true Fringe Fest fashion, the organization was sure to note that their fundraiser is sharing a date with Edgar Allen Poe and Dolly Parton’s birthdays.

The fundraiser will feature performances by TOYBOX THEATRE, Strange daughters butoh, Japanese dance theatre performed by solo artist Jenni Cockrell and the Anam Cara Theatre Company. Additional acts are promised as well.

The fundraiser for the nonprofit has a suggested $15 entry fee at the door, but as advertised on a Fringe Fest social media post, “no one turned away for lack of funds.” There will also be Fringe Fest merch, festival Freak Passes and raffle tickets for sale.

This year, Fringe Fest is scheduled for March 16 to 23 in venues across Asheville.
