BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) – A 51-year-old fugitive from West Virginia was arrested Saturday after a police chase, wrong-way drive on Interstate 240, a crash and an attempted carjacking, Black Mountain Police said.
The man, Charles Theodore Judy, 51, of Ashbury, W.Va., had an outstanding warrant for alleged robbery with a dangerous weapon in Forsyth County, N.C.
According to a news release police posted on Facebook, he was driving in the Black Mountain area in a vehicle that was displaying a registration tag that had been reported stolen out of Wilson, N.C.
“The suspect refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit on NC#9 to US 74A, through Gerton and Fairview,” the release stated.

The vehicle then got on to Interstate 24 traveling in the wrong direction, crashed and then police say Judy attempted to escape by carjacking a vehicle from another driver, the release states. He finally was taken into custody by Black Mountain Police officers and Buncombe County Sheriff’s deputies, who also were assisted by Asheville police.
Black Mountain Police Sgt. Joshua Kiser said it was fortunate that no injuries were reported.
“Obviously, this was something dangerous. We were very lucky to help our communities resolve this before anything worse occurred,” Sgt. Joshua Kiser said. “We’re always thankful when it ends as peacefully as it possibly can.”
According to Buncombe County Detention Facility records, Judy now is being held on $70,000 bond and is facing 12 new charges, including:
• Attempted kidnapping
• Possession of methamphetamine
• Reckless driving-wanton disregard.
• Driving left of center.
• Two counts of injure/tamper with vehicle
• Traffic offense-free text
• Possession of stolen goods/prop (m)
• Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
• Hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage
• Fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle
