HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Documentarian David Weintraub, the executive director of the Center for Cultural Preservation, an organization dedicated to Western North Carolina history and documentary film, has been awarded the Human Rights and Dignity Award at the 2025 Tryon International Film Festival for his film, “Color Beyond the Lines.”

“Color Beyond the Lines” follows the history, establishment and legacy of the 9th Avenue School, a consolidated learning center for Black students in Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties from 1951 until 1965.

Another documentary by Weintraub, “Nature’s Wisdom Thru Native Eyes,” an examination of environmental protection through an Indigenous perspective, will make its debut on North Carolina public television this November on PBSNC.
