BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County authorities have arrested a woman and charged her with murder in the death of her mother.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to 23 Clarks Crossing Way in the Black Mountain area for a welfare check Thursday morning when they found Lori Pallinger deceased at the home. Authorities said next of kin had been notified and the death was being investigated as a homicide.
A news release from the sheriff’s office Friday morning said Pallinger’s daughter, Danya Kathryn Dewey, 39, had been charged with first-degree murder and placed in the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond. Authorities did not say where Dewey was taken into custody.
“As the investigation is ongoing, we do not have any additional information to release at this time,” the news release said.
The sheriff’s office initially shared on Facebook Thursday afternoon that a homicide investigation was underway in the Broad River community. Few details were given in the social media post. Broad River Fire and Rescue made a Facebook post as well Thursday afternoon, sharing their department had been requested earlier in the day to assist with a possible dead-on-arrival call on Clarks Crossing Way. The Facebook post shared at 1:45 p.m. said the scene had been cleared and that they couldn’t comment on the investigation.
Later in the day, authorities announced they were searching for Dewey but did not say if she was a suspect or person of interest.
The Broad River community is a rural area near Black Mountain.
The sheriff’s office said this was an isolated incident and that the community is “not threatened.”
