WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Grab your yoga mat and head west for a full day of classes, workshops, vendors, and more to celebrate the International Day of Yoga and the Summer Solstice at the inaugural Smoky Mountain Yoga & Wellness Festival in Haywood County.
Smoky Mountain Yoga & Wellness Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 21 at the Folkmoot Cultural Center, 112 Virginia Ave.
The festival is an all-day, family-friendly event featuring yoga, qigong, somatic and sound healing sessions, live music, hooping, belly dancing, wellness and wisdom workshops, culinary delights, and more than 40 vendors of artists, artisans, body workers, intuitivists and small batch makers.
All are invited to the official festival kick-off at 10 a.m. on the festival green for a spirited opening ceremony that includes guided movement and sound healing.
At 11 a.m., Queen Auditorium, Axis Yoga Studio, and the Folkmoot Conference Center will open for classes and workshops.
Workshop topics include vinegar fusions, family nutrition, introduction to Ayurveda, mental health care, mastering marketing and mindfulness. Individual classes and workshops have a $15 attendance fee when purchased separately, though the $50 VIP Pass allows unlimited access to every class at the festival.
Imagination Station, a children’s activity area, will offer free programs all day, including yoga, hooping, arts and crafts, story time and an educational, fun and delicious lunch at noon.
With no admission fee to shop in Vendor Village, folks are free to peruse the Folkmoot galleries, enjoy live music and entertainment on the green and delight in many culinary options. Bring yoga mats, blankets, and camp chairs to claim your spot on the green for the day.
7 p.m. marks the special closing ceremony, followed at 8:51 p.m. by summer solstice sunset festivities, including live music by local musicians Jake Gilmore, Christy Tagye and A.S.H.E., the Axis Sound Healing Ensemble.
