WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A juvenile was killed in a shooting at a local store late Saturday afternoon, according to reports.

According to social media posts, the shooting happened between 4:30-5 p.m. at the Walmart in Weaverville. People reported hearing gunfire and seeing a large police presence. They reported a person had been shot in the chest.

The Weaverville Police Department said in a social media post officers were investigating the death of a juvenile. They did not give a cause of death or where it occurred.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families impacted by this tragic loss,” the post said.

Weaverville police confirmed to news media a juvenile had been shot and killed.

Police said the next of kin had not been notified.

Authorities called it an isolated incident and said there was no threat to the community.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
