ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Rondell Lance has stepped down as chair of the Buncombe County Republican Party, effective Friday, June 20, the party announced in a statement Monday.
Lance tendered his resignation to the party’s Executive Board, citing personal reasons and the heavy responsibilities of the role.
“As for me, I have decided that I am not the person to lead the party any longer,” Lance said in a statement. “The weight of responsibility laid upon the chair is more than I am willing or able to bear. It has affected the three things most precious to me: my faith, family and friends.”
Lance expressed gratitude for the support he received during his tenure and praised the efforts of party volunteers, staff and committee members.
“There are so many talented people that work hard every day to move the party forward,” he said. “I have nothing but love for everyone and the party.”
The Buncombe County GOP said it appreciated Lance’s “dedication and heart,” and wished him well as he enters a new chapter. “We are deeply grateful for his contributions,” the party’s statement read.
Gloria Michael, who was serving as vice chair, will act as interim chair. In accordance with the party’s governing rules, a special meeting of the County Executive Committee will be held to elect a new chair. The date of that election will be announced with at least 10 days’ public notice, as required.
Until a permanent replacement is elected, Michael and the executive board will continue party operations and outreach efforts, including preparations for the 2026 election cycle.
