Two area law enforcement agencies are teaming up to help buy playground equipment for a 2-year-old child who is battling cancer.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s office and Black Mountain Police have partnered with the ROC Solid Foundation to make a difference in the life of James, a child in Western North Carolina who is fighting adrenal cancer, Black Mountain Police Chief Steve Parker said.
The goal is to raise $8,000, to build a backyard playground and help the family with expenses, Black Mountain Police announced in a Facebook posting. The two law enforcement agencies are collecting community donations.
Meanwhile, a special event has been planned from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Gold Finch Cocktails & Kitchen in Black Mountain, where 25 percent of the night’s sales and tips will go to the cause.
As fundraising organizers said in an announcement, “Every contribution, big or small, will help bring joy and laughter to James as he continues his courageous fight against cancer.”
Founded by a survivor of childhood liver cancer, ROC Solid Foundation provides families with hospital Ready Bags when children first are diagnosed with cancer and then has crews build backyard playsets while they are being treated. For more information, see: rocsolidfoundation.org.
