ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Buncombe County jury on Thursday found Lamon Lewis Goggans guilty of multiple felony charges stemming from a string of machete-related robberies in Asheville, authorities said.

Goggans, 39, was convicted of two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, all classified as Class D felonies. The jury also determined Goggans is a habitual felon, which elevated the charges to Class C felonies and triggered a longer prison sentence under North Carolina law.

According to the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, Goggans was arrested by Asheville police in connection with multiple robberies in which he used a machete to threaten victims.

Prosecutors said Goggans had at least three prior felony convictions, qualifying him for habitual felon status. Assistant District Attorney Stormy Ellis requested consecutive sentences for each charge, but Superior Court Judge Alan Thornburg ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

Goggans was sentenced to 120 to 156 months (10 to 13 years) in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.
