David Madison Cawthorn, the 30-year-old former U.S. representative for North Carolina's 11th congressional district, encompassing Western North Carolina from Cherokee County to McDowell County, was arrested in Cape Coral, Florida earlier this week.
CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA (828newsNOW) — David Madison Cawthorn, the 30-year-old former U.S. representative for North Carolina’s 11th congressional district, encompassing Western North Carolina from Cherokee County to McDowell County, was arrested in Cape Coral, Florida earlier this week.
Cawthorn was arrested by the Cape Coral Police Department on an out-of-county warrant for the former congressman’s failure to appear in court in Collier County, about an hour south of the Lee County town.
Cawthorn was booked around 2:47 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10 and released around 3:51 p.m. that afternoon on a $2,000 cash bond.
According to Gulf Coast News, Cawthorn had been cited by police on Aug. 19, 2025 in Naples, Florida, a Collier County city, for driving without a license.
Cawthorn, an Asheville native, moved to Florida after losing congressional re-election in 2022.
