ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department arrested a man who discharged a gun outside a west Asheville business early this morning.

Officers responded to the call around 1:44 a.m. on April 10 to investigate a report of gun discharge near the 300 block of Haywood Road. Upon arrival, the suspect was no longer on scene. Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that a physical altercation had occurred inside the business prior to the incident.

Investigative efforts led officers to identify and locate the suspect, Jonathon Ryan Roberts, 38, at a nearby residence. Roberts was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, 32.01 grams of suspected Fentanyl, 4.38 grams of Psilocybin Mushrooms and drug paraphernalia.

No one was injured and there were no reports of property damage.

Roberts was charged with the following:

  • Felony possession of controlled substance prison/jail premises
  • Felony possession Schedule II x2
  • Felony possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule II x2
  • Felony trafficking opium or heroin
  • Discharge firearm in city limits
  • Go armed to terror of people
  • Resisting public officer
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Roberts has a warrant out for the following:

  • Probation violation

Roberts was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $90,000 bond.
