ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

A man has been arrested after being accused of stabbing another in the back with a hypodermic needle after a confrontation on Biltmore Avenue last month.

Julien Bryan McArthur, 29, was arrested Monday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury, solicit alms (panhandling) and resisting a public officer, according to a news release from the Asheville Police Department.

The victim told officers he and his family were walking south on Biltmore Avenue about 6:30 p.m. May 31 when a man approached them and asked for money.

“After refusing, the suspect picked up a hypodermic needle from the ground and stabbed the victim in the back as he was walking away,” the news release said.

Detectives identified McArthur as a suspect, and he was located on June 17.

McArthur was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $51,000 secured bond.
