ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A man was killed Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 40 in east Asheville, according to the Asheville Police Department.
Officers responded around 7:36 a.m. to a report of a collision with injuries near Mile Marker 51 on I-40 East.
Police said a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck, towing a trailer and driven by Carlos Alfredo Amaya-Segovia, 34, had pulled over to the shoulder because of a mechanical failure. While Amaya-Segovia was outside his vehicle, a 2021 Ford F-450 truck, also towing a trailer and attempting to change lanes, struck the disabled truck. The impact pushed the F-250 into Amaya-Segovia, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been notified.
The Asheville Police Department said the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the case will be reviewed by the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office.
