ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Police Department Detectives are investigating the stabbing of a man which occurred on Tuesday afternoon in West Asheville.

Around 3:12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, APD officers arrived at Ascent Apartment Homes to investigate a stabbing report. Upon arrival, officers found a man in the parking lot suffering from knife wounds to the upper body and head. The man indicated that his attacker was still inside of the apartment building, after which APD officials located and took in the suspect without incident.

The victim was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment of his wounds, where he remains in serious, life-threatening condition.

According to APD Public Information Office Rick Rice, the investigation thus far has revealed that the stabbing victim had broken into the bedroom of his assailant.

“It’s pretty much assured that one person broke into someone’s bedroom,” Rice said. “The victim came through an unopened door and initiated.”

However, what charges should or will be filed against both parties remains undetermined until the investigation is complete.

“That the person who is the suspect, essentially, was defending himself, this is what is going to be investigated,” Rice explained.
