ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A man wanted on numerous drug charges was taken into custody earlier this week in Asheville.

Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies on the Illegal Gun Reduction and Narcotics Task Force partnered with the United States Marshals Service to arrest Antonne Dewillard Smith Jr. at a home on Blanton Street in Asheville on Monday, Jan. 27.

“Our investigation determined Smith was involved in medication fraud of controlled substances. Smith had multiple outstanding warrants from the Asheville Police Department,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Smith is charged with:

  • 6 counts of trafficking in opium or heroin (Oxycodone)
  • 3 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud/forgery

Smith is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center on $252,000 bond.
