MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The McDowell County Courthouse in downtown Marion was evacuated after a bomb threat Friday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., an alert from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said evacuations were underway and bomb squad units and K9 teams were methodically securing the building.

About 11:30 a.m., authorities said law enforcement and emergency services officials cleared the building and, “No threat has been found.”

The courthouse reopened to the public.

The public had been asked to avoid Main, Court, Henderson and South Garden streets until the threat could be determined. Those roads have also reopened.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to contact Capt. Shanon Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office at 828-652-2235, ext. 1254.
