ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The N.C. Forest Service will begin accepting orders for its annual tree seedling sale on Tuesday, July 1, offering a wide variety of native and genetically improved tree species to landowners across the state.
The NCFS Nursery Program produces about 10 million seedlings annually, enough to reforest approximately 18,700 acres. This year’s inventory includes more than 40 species of conifer and hardwood seedlings available in multiple quantities.
“Our nursery program continues to serve as a stable provider of native forest tree seedlings while ensuring access to a reliable supply of more than 40 tree species for planting throughout North Carolina,” Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said in a statement. “These affordable tree seedlings help keep our forestlands growing, thriving and beautiful. Traditionally, seedling inventory goes quickly, so I encourage folks not to hesitate.”
Genetically improved varieties are available for several pine species, including Fraser fir, loblolly, longleaf, shortleaf, Eastern white pine and Virginia pine. These seedlings offer advantages such as better growth, form, disease resistance and straightness — traits that are valued for Christmas tree production, woodland restoration and timber markets.
Orders can be placed online at www.buynctrees.com, by phone at 1-888-NCTREES (1-888-628-7337) or 919-731-7988, or by mailing in an order form from the 2025–2026 nursery catalog. A new digital catalog will be posted soon at ncforestservice.gov, and print copies will be available at NCFS offices statewide in July.
Seedlings can be shipped via UPS, delivered to one of 13 distribution centers for a fee or picked up at the Claridge Nursery in Goldsboro or the Linville River Nursery near Crossnore.
Customers are encouraged to contact their local NCFS county ranger for advice on planting and site selection. More information is available at www.ncforestservice.gov/contacts.
