ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Those who need to file a police report or get copies of a report now have another option. The Asheville Police Department is opening a records desk at the Broadway Public Safety Station in north Asheville.

Staffing of the records desks aims to provide accessibility and convenience for North Asheville residents, an Asheville Police Department news release said.

Community members may now go to the Broadway Public Safety Station at 316 Broadway St. from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding city holidays) to file or obtain copies of a report.

Residents still have the option to utilize the online reporting system to report non-emergency incidents on the Police-to-Citizen portal.

People may also file or obtain copies of a report in the Asheville Police Department lobby at 100 Court Plaza from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Online reporting is designed for incidents that are not actively occurring, have occurred within Asheville city limits and involve unknown offenders or known offenders not currently at the scene,” APD spokesperson Rick Rice said. “Depending on the circumstances and available staffing, a police officer may respond in person or handle the report over the phone.”

Asheville residents can reach APD Communications 24/7 via the non-emergency line at 828-252-1110 for further assistance or information on reporting procedures. If there is an emergency or a crime is in progress, please call 911 immediately.

“We encourage citizens to gather all necessary information, such as serial numbers, vehicle information, or other pertinent information available when filing a report. If this information is not readily available when attempting to file an in-person report, a citizen may be directed to file online once they have the required details. Being prepared with complete information ensures the accuracy of the report,” Rice said.
