ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville’s newest generation of hometown musicians will rock out with a benefit concert this weekend.
Asheville Music School, a local nonprofit promoting affordable music education and outreach, will host their 11th Sound Effects benefit concert from noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 18 at One World Brewing West, 520 Haywood Road. Donations will be accepted at the door on a sliding scale basis at the door.
The concert will feature several AMS student bands, including Minør, Dr. Funky Squirrel and Liminal Spaces, as well as several solo and duo acts.
Funds raised by Sound Effects go toward the Paul Thorpe Music Education Fund, which provides the backing track for AMS scholarships and programs for up to 90% of tuition.
This year, donations will also go to improve the AMS Sound Lab, a digital sound production studio.
“These young musicians truly rock, and AMS is honored to present this next generation of Asheville musicians,” wrote AMS Executive Director Ryan Reardon in a press release.
Sound Effects will also feature games, food trucks and other family-friendly activities.
