ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville city officials have made safety improvements along the French Broad River West Greenway after recent incidents where drivers mistakenly entered the path thinking it was a road.
In a social media post Monday, the city said a few drivers had accessed the greenway via a service entrance, prompting swift action to prevent confusion and protect pedestrians and cyclists.
To reinforce that the greenway is not open to motor vehicles, city staff have locked the gate at the service road, installed new “No Motor Vehicles” signage and added pavement markings and vertical posts along the path.
Officials thanked the public for helping to keep Asheville’s greenways safe and scenic.
The French Broad River West Greenway is part of the city’s expanding network of multi-use paths designed for recreation and non-motorized transportation.
