ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) –
One person died of a gunshot wound and three other people were injured Monday night, in a multi-shooter conflict at an apartment complex on Livingston Street in Asheville, in the city’s fifth homicide of 2024, the Asheville Police Department said in a release.
About 7:58 p.m. on June 24, officers responded to an apartment complex on Livingston Street, where they found four people injured – three from gunshot wounds and another from blunt force trauma.
One of the gunshot victims died, and, following notification of next of kin, was identified as Ashley Ryan Waddell, 40, police said.
According to a news release, Isaiah Rayshawn Waddell, 23, was arrested as “one of the shooters” involved in the incident.
Police spokesperson Rick Rice said, “He is not charged with the shooting of the deceased, but one of the other victims.”

Isaiah Rayshawn Waddell was booked into Buncombe County Detention Facility, where online records indicate he was charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied property and discharging a firearm in city limits.
According to the warrant for Waddell, juveniles were in the Livingston Heights apartment at the time of the shooting.
Another gunshot victim was in critical condition as of late Monday night, and a third person sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the news release stated.
“It was sad what happened yesterday,” said a woman at the apartment complex who did not want to be identified.
The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiners was assisting Asheville police officers, detectives and forensic technicians in the investigation.
Police were asking anyone with information about the case to contact APD, either by calling (828) 252-1110, by texting TIP2APD to 847411, or by using the TIP2APD smartphone app.
