ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Patton Avenue improvement project comes into its final stage this week with another nighttime closure.

Residents and commuters should be aware of construction and closures on Patton Avenue from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Wednesday, May 21 to Friday, May 23.

The schedule is weather-dependent, but will span:

  • Wednesday, May 21: Closure of the Clingman Avenue and Patton Avenue intersection for milling and overlay work

  • Thursday, May 22: Closure of the French Broad Avenue and Patton Avenue intersection for milling and overlay work

  • Friday, May 23: If needed, an additional night closure to complete the resurfacing of the intersections

  • Paving will also take place on Carter Street and Ann Street north of Patton Avenue

Westbound traffic leaving downtown should use N French Broad Avenue to access I-240. Eastbound traffic headed into downtown should use exits 4C, 5A, or 5B to access downtown.

For the French Broad Avenue and Patton Avenue intersection, detour along Ashland Avenue, Hilliard Avenue and Clingman Avenue.

After paving, contractors will plant trees and complete a few remaining items before completing the project.

Following the paving work, contractors will plant trees in designated areas and complete remaining punch list project items as the final step before completing the project.

“The City of Asheville appreciates the community’s patience as crews have carried out this important work,” wrote the city in a press release.
