ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian early Monday in East Asheville.
Officers responded to the 115 block of Swannanoa River Road about 12:48 a.m. May 26. According to a preliminary investigation, a pedestrian was walking east on or near the center line of the roadway when they were struck by an eastbound 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The pedestrian died at the scene. Their identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Alyssa Rain Farmer, 21, was not injured. She has been charged with driving while under the influence.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, officers will consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office.
