ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred Tuesday night in West Asheville. A pedestrian was killed at the scene.
Officers responded the crash site around 10:01 p.m., Tuesday, June 10 at the intersection of Patton Avenue and North Louisiana Avenue.
The preliminary investigation indicated a 2000 Nissan Sentra was traveling westbound in the far right lane of Patton Avenue through a green traffic signal when it struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk. The pedestrian succumbed to their injuries on the scene.
Once next of kin is notified, further information will be released.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. This incident remains under investigation. Once their work has been completed, APD officers will consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office regarding the next steps related to this tragic incident.
Previously this spring, a Weaverville woman was involved in a hit-and-run incident on April 8 near the intersection of Patton Avenue and Louisiana Avenue, located across the street from North Louisiana Avenue.
