An Atkinson Street home was hit by gunfire early Monday morning, and while officers were investigating that crime, they arrested two people on drug-related charges, an Asheville Police Department news release said.
The shooting happened about 1:12 a.m. on the 100 block of Atkinson Street. Officers recovered five shell casings and noted only property damage, according to the news release. The suspects were no longer on the scene.
While officers were investigating the shooting, they made contact with Dillon Dustin Hart, 33, who was wanted for larceny. Hart fled the scene but was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, the news release said. During his arrest, Hart was found to be in possession of drugs.

Shortly after that, officers located Chance Taylor Williams, 29, with a trafficking amount of drugs, the news release said. Williams was taken into custody without incident.
According to the Buncombe County Detention Facility roster, Hart was charged with two counts of felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer and shoplifting concealment goods. He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $5,500 secured bond.

According to the jail roster, Williams was charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; possession of methamphetamine; trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine; manufacture, sell, distribute, possess a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police seized 28.5 grams of methamphetamine and 0.92 grams of fentanyl, the news release said.
Williams was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond.
