CEDAR MOUNTAIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Reasonover Creek Trail at DuPont State Recreational Forest will temporarily close in sections as part of an improvement project set to begin Monday, June 9.
The 3.5-mile trail upgrade is part of the forest’s Master Recreation Plan, designed to support high levels of recreational use while promoting environmental sustainability, extending the trail’s lifespan, reducing erosion and protecting nearby water quality.
“We are excited to improve this valuable trail,” Jane Dauster, recreation specialist for DuPont State Recreational Forest, said in a news release.
Portions of the trail pass through protected habitats, limiting the ability to relocate the path. In these areas, crews will use a technique known as rock armoring — placing natural stone to stabilize trail surfaces — to prevent further erosion, particularly near creeks and streams.
The work will take place in stages to minimize disruptions. Completion is expected by December 2025. All work will be overseen by DSRF staff.
Visitors are urged to respect all posted trail closures throughout the duration of the project.
