ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Enjoy today’s warmer temperatures because they will be going away as artic air arrives in the area Wednesday.

Highs today are expected to be in the mid-60s, and rain will be moving in this afternoon. Several rounds of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, are expected, according to the National Weather Service. Locally excessive rainfall from heavy showers moving over the same locations may result in isolated flooding.

Wet weather will continue into Wednesday morning, then a cold front will cross the area Wednesday evening bringing drier conditions through the start of the weekend, the National Weather Service said.

But, as cold air filters into the higher elevations behind the departing front, rain showers may turn to snow showers. About half an inch of snow could fall in the usual high-elevation locations during the afternoon. Valleys will see just rain. Winds will be gusty across the area but below Wind Advisory levels. The mountains will see morning highs with temperatures falling through the day.
