ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville-based Santiago y Los Gatos will be releasing their new album album, “Washing Away Wetiko,” on Wednesday night, April 24, at Eulogy, 10 Buxton Ave., Asheville.
Comedian Minori Hinds opens at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18.19.
The band features Bronx-born singer-songwriter Jeff Santiago, with Josh Chassner on lead guitar, Jayson Tomlin on bass, David Elliott Johnson on drums and Stephanie Barcelona on backing vocals. The album was produced by Johnson.
As frontman Santiago explained in a press release, “This album represents some of the most vulnerable writing I’ve ever done, grappling with profound personal losses as well as sociopolitical divisions.” Themes in the album include tragedy, cultural divisions, and “Santiago’s personal demons,” the release explains.
Family tragedies are confronted on songs like “Aura” and “Brothers,” while the group faces cultural divisions on “Gaslight” and “After Me.” Other songs reflect on relationships, and Santiago taps into his Latino roots in Spanish on “Eres Tú.”
